Pillars

This concrete nine-storey tower was completed in 1970 as a rental apartment building, then condo converted and renovated in 1998. I don't know if the Mediterranean "pillars" theme quite worked, and some owners who have removed those in their suites must have agreed. Lobby and other improvements look good in 2011. 'Cute suite layouts in this building, with one-bedroom non-corner suites facing north, flanked by two-bedroom corner-located suites.

At the back on each floor are two two-bedroom and one-bathroom suites with south-facing windows, but with both a window and the balcony of each facing north; 'clever. Up top are two true loft suites of 1,384 square feet with two full bathrooms and terrific views north to downtown. The eighth floor has key-lock security on the elevator. The building's one-bedroom suites are about 583 square feet and the non-loft two-bedroom homes are about 775 square feet.

Pillars Condos has 20 indoor titled parking stalls and another 20 assigned and Plan-surveyed outdoor stalls around back for the balance of the 40 suites. There are basement assigned storage lockers; no other in-house amenities. The elevator does not reach the garage level, so it's out at the lobby, around the corner and down the stairs. This is an attractive building on a tree-lined block, but 'last I looked the lobby needed redecorating, perhaps dispensing with the faux pillars.

Exterior windows and doors at the Pillars Condos are the property/responsibility of each suite owner. I have the Condo Plan on file; it allocates unit factors in proportion to each suite's floor area, and a UF of one for each titled indoor parking stall.
