Grand Haras
Not much had happened on this site along Fifth Street since the project was announced in 2006. The plans called for an 18-storey tower with 76 suites built by Suede Living Incorporated on the site of the demolished three-storey Erin Apartments. The site looks east across Fifth Street to the new Eldon Chumir Urgent Care Centre, formerly the old Colonel Belcher Veterans Hospital. The City of Calgary may have taken over the site to keep it safe and tidy.
The proposal shows two levels of commercial space facing the street and three 1,400-square-foot townhouse-style homes facing onto Thirteenth Avenue. The tower itself is to be more narrow with projecting balconies, only four suites per floor and some curved aspects to the roof. Penthouses were to be of 1,300 square feet each with wrap-around decks.
Suede Living's standard finishings may eventually include granite countertops, engineered hardwood floors, stainless-steel appliances and a generally high standard. The Company also announced but has not yet begun the Grand Royal on the north side of Sixteenth Avenue between Tenth and Eleventh streets, S.W.
