Discovery Pointe
The shorter and westerly of these two towers built by Pointe of View and completed in 2003 is the condominium building, while the taller east tower became a rental building that has since been sold to a large investment firm. The condo building holds 129 suites in 16 stories, plus a two-storey decorative peaked roof. The top two floors of both towers are inset from the buildings' octagon-shaped footprints, but with continuous balconies that project beyond the footprints, giving those penthouse and sub-penthouse suites large outdoor areas. Those expanded upper balconies also add some design flair to the buildings' top ends.
The buildings have a large parkade under them that is a separate condo corporation owned jointly by the corporate owner of the rental tower and all owners of suites in the condo tower. A common lobby with 24-hour security staff serves the two buildings. Of course access fobs are separate.
The condo tower has two rec rooms on the main floor offering billiards, table tennis and foosball, and there's a spacious gym and sauna on the third floor atop of which is a nice roof patio between the two towers.
Suites here have unusual designs because of the building's octagon floor plate. Sizes range from one-bedroom suites of 624 sq. ft to two-bedroom suites of 1,055 sq. ft. Part of the attraction of Discovery Pointe is the location in Mewata adjacent to the LRT station at the west end of downtown's free-fare zone. As well, of course, Kensington is just across the Louise Bridge over the Bow River. West and north-facing suites mostly have nice views of the river valley and the north hill.
Exterior windows and doors at Discovery Pointe are common property. I have the tower's Condo Plan on file.
